Was this ban fair?
So I just tried to open my game. It says ive been banned for using racial slurs. I am assuming this is because I made a PvP character named "Obama Is A Nagger". I didnt think you could be banned for character names, and its not even a slur really. It just means Obama nag's alot, nothing racial. I mean, sure its an inside joke. But I just dont agree to this ban at all. However I dont feel like sending in a ticket or calling them because its only 66 hour ban, dont want to make it a bigger deal than it is. I was just wondering, do you guys think this is a fair ban? It dosnt seem like it to me, ive seen alot worse character names.

If I saw that - I see someone who wanted to call Obama the n word (ie, switching the a for an i). From a glance, it looks like an attempt to get around using a banned word. So yes, I'd call it a fair ban. Sorry about, but I would agree with their judgement.

Yes, it was a fair ban. If you didn't know you can be banned for character names, you clearly have not read the game rules at all, because there's a section specifically about naming guidelines.
http://guildwars.com/support/legal/naming_policy.php And you can claim it's not racial at all, but it's one letter off from a terrible slur - so yes, it would have been considered offensive and racist. Saying it's an inside joke and you don't mean it to be racist doesn't change that fact. |

i would definitely say its fair, the words your getting around can be found very offensive to some people and yes there are worse names out there, but hopefully they get caught too

Why should it matter? Because people constantly change one or two letters in a word to try and get around censors.
Why are you at all surprised that your were banned for that name? |

It doesn't matter what you understand it to be, it's about what other people will see when they look at it. There are many different ages and racial groups that play Guild Wars and Arenanet has to do as much as they can to make the environment as accomodating to all as possible through the use of censorship. You might not have meant harm by it, but the fact that someone could interpret it as something offensive is grounds enough for a temp ban. As for the "worse names," I don't know what to tell you other than hopefully they'll be dealt with soon.
Just when making character names "When in doubt, it's probably not acceptable." |

You can be banned for anything. It's up to Support and someone was probably offended by your name.
